ADJUNCT PROFESSOR

Melissa Harl Sellew, Th.D., is Professor Emerita of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota. A graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, she received her M.Div. and Th.D. degrees in New Testament and Christian Origins from Harvard Divinity School. Her research interests focus especially these days on ‘apocryphal’ texts like the Acts of Paul and Thecla and the Gospel of Thomas. She is currently preparing an essay on Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians for the Queer Bible Commentary, one of several recent and forthcoming publications in which she employs the lens of transgender hermeneutics. Other commitments include her service on the boards of the legal and political advocacy group Gender Justice and of her congregation, First Congregational Church of Minnesota (UCC), in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis.
