Commitments
As United enters its second half-century, it is my responsibility and privilege to support our excellent faculty and academic staff individually and collectively to ensure that our ever-evolving programs:
- meet the needs of the changing church;
- are accessible to students both locally and at a distance;
- provide leaders with knowledge and skills for a variety of transformative ministries;
- uphold rigorous academic and professional standards;
- embody our charter to be ecumenical; and
- offer vital lifelong learning opportunities for both clergy and laity.
What I want to impart, instill, show, and/or give to students
United’s long-standing commitment to educate faithful leaders committed to furthering God’s just and righteous realm in church and world does not waver, though the expressions of that commitment change as we seek to respond to the call of the Still-Speaking God.
Personal Interests
Reading mysteries, drinking tea, driving the roads out back of beyond, Minnesota’s North Shore, southwestern Wisconsin (American Players Theatre), and the State Fair.

I
am committed to building a dynamic collection of
resources that reflect the needs of the curriculum,
the strengths of our Christian heritage, and the
ongoing revelations of contemporary theological thought.
As the combination of print materials and technological
tools offers access to a staggering amount of information,
the library staff works to help patrons identify,
locate, and critically evaluate the resources that
will best meet their needs.

“I
want our students to know the difference between
a quickly-found resource and a good resource, and
to be able to find a good resource quickly.”

“Most folks don’t use the words ‘passion’
and ‘librarian’ in the same sentence. I am nevertheless
passionate about making sure the library collection represents
a multiplicity of theological voices, including some that
are not well-represented in our immediate community.
