Criteria for Admission

Master of Divinity (M.Div.)
Master of Arts in Religious Leadership (M.A.R.L.)

Master of Arts (M.A.) program in:

   Religion and Theology
   Theology and The Arts
   Women’s Studies
   Leadership toward Racial Justice
Diploma in Indian Ministries
Non-degree status

 
Diploma in Advanced Theological Studies
 
Certificate in Theological and Religious Studies
 
Certificate in Leadership toward Racial Justice
 
Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)


Admission Criteria for M.Div., M.A.R.L., M.A., Diploma in Indian Ministries, non-degree status

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • A grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong analytical and reflective thinking and writing skills.
  • Vocational and academic goals that are compatible with the vision and mission of United.

Mature adults with significant life and vocational experience who have earned at least half of the credits toward a bachelor’s degree may be considered for the M.Div., M.A.R.L., or Diploma in Indian Ministries programs, particularly if strong exposure to the liberal arts and social sciences can be demonstrated.

The Diploma in Indian Ministries is a cohort-based program. Students are admitted to the program only as part of a cohort of sufficient size.

Admission Criteria for Diploma in Advanced Theological Studies

  • Spoken and written English language proficiency.
  • Previous study of theology in a theological school approved by the student’s denomination.
  • Recommendation by the students denomination.
  • Evidence of sufficient personal and social stability to profit from studies at United.
  • Willingness to engage in the life of the seminary and, where appropriate, participate in local church life.

Admission Criteria for Certificate in Theological and Religious Studies and Certificate in Leadership toward Racial Justice

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent life experience.
  • Strong analytical and reflective thinking and writing skills.

Admission Criteria for D.Min.

  • The applicant is a graduate of a regionally accredited undergraduate institution with a B.A. or B.S. degree.
  • The applicant has received an ATS-accredited M.Div. degree or equivalent.
  • The grade point average for the applicants M.Div. degree is at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (applicants who have at least a 2.50 GPA may be considered for admission to Module 1 alone).
  • The applicant has at least three years of experience in ministry since the completion of his/her Masters degree.

There are no limits to admission based on denominational preference, age, race, ethnic or national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or physical abilities or conditions.
