Student Involvement
Student
Life
Close
relationships among students and faculty develop at United
largely because of the three-hour “block” design
of class scheduling. The small group work that most classes
include invites students to develop ties that carry over
to times outside the classroom.
Community life is further enhanced through the programs
of the Community and Student Life Committee. A range of formal
and informal activities for students is planned. These include
outside speakers, forum presentations, lunch-hour discussions,
and a weekly evening potluck. This committee also coordinates
holiday dinners, student interest groups, and workshops,
as well as enables the work of caucuses and action committees.
Student
Government
Students
are an active and integral part of the administrative life
at United. Student representatives serve on the board
of trustees, the seminary council, and standing committees.
The Student Executive Committee (SEC) coordinates student
affairs, advocates for student concerns, and administers the
student
activity fund.
Interest Groups
Student life is further enriched by various special interest
groups which meet regularly to develop programs, provide
outreach, or serve as forums for discussion. These groups
often center around social justice, spiritual formation,
denominational affiliation, and community life.
